Search Engine Optimization

Search Engine Optimization

One of the most important strategies in Search Engine Optimization is link building.

July 2, 2008

Link building helps your search engine optimization for the keyword that you want to be number one in the searches and it gives your website presence on the Internet.

However, most people don’t know how to begin a link building campaign.  Where do you look?  Who should you link to?  Should you do reciprocal linking?  Do you even know what reciprocal linking is?  Where should you place the reciprocal link? How do you insert the reciprocal link into the HTML of your web page?  Did you build your own website or did you pay to have it done for you?  Do you  have to pay in order to insert your reciprocal links?  The questions go on and on.  There are many resources where you can learn how to start a link building campaign.  We can never overstate how important links are.  They are considered a vote for your page by the search engines.  If the only place on the Internet that your website is mentioned is on your own website, then you have lost the battle before even firing a shot.  You cannot sit idly by and expect people to find your site if it cannot be found anywhere.  You need to do a submission to search engines and directories.  SEO Business Solutions has state of the art submission software and we will get your website submitted to the major search engines and thousands of other search engines and web directories (including DMOZ).  The open directory project.  That is only the beginning.  You have to find other resources that will point to you without you pointing to them.  We are not saying that a reciprocal link isn’t worthwhile.  There is still room for reciprocal links. They are simply not as valuable as inbound links.  We will give you a heads up.  Go to Google and type “free link directories” in the search box.  You are going to get thousands upon thousands of link directories.  If you are beginning your link building campaign, then you need to concentrate on the free links that do not require a reciprocal link.  You can find hundreds of link directories from PR 6 all the way to no PR.  However, don’t concentrate your link building campaign only on the link directories with the high PR’s.  This will not look natural to the search engines.  You should submit your website for inclusion in approximately 250 to 300 link directories per month, until you have your website linked all over the Internet.  Once you begin to run out of options for inbound links, you can begin working on reciprocal links.
Once your website has all of those links pointing to it, you will begin to see it moving up in the search results for your given keyword or keyword phrases.  Remember to include the keywords you are optimizing for in your link.  Some directories won’t let you do this, but most will.  After all, if you are optimizing for “widgets” and you don’t have widgets anywhere in your inbound links, you have ignored one of the most important reasons for linking in the first place.

Search Engine Optimization Glossary Term of the Day

Search Engine Optimization
Glossary Term of the Day

Banner Blindness

During the first web boom many businesses were
based on eyeballs more than actually building real
value. Many ads were typically quite irrelevant and
web users learned to ignore the most common ad
types.
In many ways text ads are successful because they
are more relevant and look more like content, but
with the recent surge in the popularity of text ads
some have speculated that in time people may
eventually become text ad blind as well.

Nick Denton stated:  Imagine a web in which Google
and Overture text ads are everywhere . Not only
beside search results, but next to every article and
weblog post. Ubiquity breeds contempt. Text ads,
coupled with content targeting, are more effective
than graphic ads for many advertisers; but they too,
like banners, will suffer reader burnout.Battelle, John

Keep your content fresh and unique.

Search Engine Optimization, SEO Business Solutions

There are endless search engine optimization strategies.  They are probably as endless as the changes in the algorithms used by the search engine companies.  How do strategize properly?  How can you stay a step ahead?  How can you be sure that your site will be spidered and that your site will maintain its high rankings once the algorithms change?

Those are all very goods questions.  However, a sure way to keep the search engines happy is through fresh and unique content.  There are many ways to get fresh content on your website.  It is not an industry secret that search engines love fresh content.  When your website is spidered, if the search engine finds fresh and very original content, then it is more likely to come back next time looking for more of the same.  Search Engine Optimization companies understand this fact, and the good companies encourage you to find ways to maintain your site, edit it and add new content daily….even more if possible.

If you don’t have the time to add fresh content to your website as part of your search engine optimization strategy, then let our content writers do it for you.  We offer fresh content as part of our SEO strategy.  We want your site to benefit from frequent visits from the search engines.   We require our writers to have university degrees in order to work for us.  They are creative and very imaginative.  This is also a plus for your site.  If you are in a very competitive market, it is likely that you do not have a unique product.   If you don’t, then the best way to present it to the search engines is through unique content.  Distinguish your website content from the rest, and watch your site move up in the search engine results.

Google explains its own methodology

June 2, 2008

SEO Business Solutions, Search Engine Optimization

When you are an SEO company such as SEO Business Solutions, it pays to go to the source in order to understand the results of a particular search. In Google Technology, the methodology of search engine results is explained in the following manner: Google runs on a unique combination of advanced hardware and software. The speed you experience can be attributed in part to the efficiency of our search algorithm and partly to the thousands of low cost PC’s we’ve networked together to create a superfast search engine. The heart of our software is PageRank, a system for ranking web pages developed by our founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin at Stanford University. And while we have dozens of engineers working to improve every aspect of Google on a daily basis, PageRank continues to play a central role in many of our web search tools.

PageRank Explained

PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page’s value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at considerably more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; for example, it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves “important” weigh more heavily and help to make other pages “important”. Using these and other factors, Google provides its views on pages’ relative importance. Of course, important pages mean nothing to you if they don’t match your query. So, Google combines PageRank with sophisticated text-matching techniques to find pages that are both important and relevant to your search. Google goes far beyond the number of times a term appears on a page and examines dozens of aspects of the page’s content (and the content of the pages linking to it) to determine if it’s a good match for your query.

Integrity

Google’s complex automated methods make human tampering with our search results extremely difficult. And though we may run relevant ads above and next to our results, Google does not sell placement within the results themselves (i.e., no one can buy a particular or higher placement). A Google search provides an easy and effective way to find high-quality websites that contain information relevant to your search.

Google Ads show strong growth.

May 29, 2008

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Google Inc., showed strong growth in its ability to convert Web searches into ads viewed, according to a closely watched industry report quoted by analysts on Thursday, and its shares rose 2.5 percent.

Web tracking firm comScore Inc’s  monthly report on “paid clicks” showed Google’s U.S. growth at 19.6 percent in April from a year ago, compared with growth of 2.7 percent in March and 3.1 percent in February, according to analysts.

Lehman Brothers analyst Douglas Anmuth said the growth suggests a reversal in trends seen for Google during the first quarter of the year and could spur shares higher on hopes the Web leader had reaccelerated growth in the market.

“We are cautious about reading too much into the data as they track only domestic (owned and operated) paid clicks and exclude Google’s full network and international paid clicks,” Anmuth wrote in a note to clients.

Jefferies & Co analyst Youssef Squali said Google could exceed his revenue expectations for the second quarter if growth remained on its current trajectory.

He noted that paid click declines of 4.4 percent for Yahoo Inc. and 9 percent for Microsoft Corp’s MSN could bolster the case for the two to combine, or for Yahoo to clinch a search partnership with Google that has been under discussion for weeks.

Microsoft withdrew a $47.5 billion bid for Yahoo earlier this month in a disagreement over price. Yahoo Chief Executive Jerry Yang said on Wednesday the two companies were still discussing a potential partnership or alternatives to a deal.

ComScore does not publicly release the paid click reports it sends to clients.

Google shares rose $15 to $583, Yahoo slipped 11 cents to $27.06 while Microsoft gained 32 cents to $28.50.
